Welcome to Journalism 301 and our new Digital Media Workshop!
This newly designed course will build on the skills learned in Journalism 201 and reflect the multimedia nature of the journalism industry by introducing writing for broadcast journalism as well as social media. Students will be learning new ways to produce excellent online, audio and video journalism as well as how to use an iPad3 loaded with the latest digital recording, filming and editing technology for multi-platform reporting and digital story production. We will be sharing our insights from class and in the field during the semester by tweeting to our class hash tag #jrnl301. This course is also part of the Fall 2013 pilot program called “A Domain of One’s Own” in which each student will create their own website where they will publish their multimodal writing. This project will prepare students for digital citizenship and teach them about the best practices for digital publication. Each student will establish a digital identity and their own personal cyber-infrastructure that will last well beyond this course and allow them to both engage in intellectual conversations online and archive their work. This class website will serve as a home base and help turn this course into an open, networked community dedicated to journalism that is important, relevant and engaging. |
