Podcast Assignment
Due: Thursday, October 31. Please post your podcast and digital elements on your domain and the class website before the start of class. I will also need a hard copy of the audio script and source sheet (-5 points if not included) turned in during class even if you are absent. Second draft due Thursday, November 14.
Subject: An issue or a trend in a beat of your choice. Choose a topic suited to a podcast as nat sound is required for this assignment.
Length: 2:00-2:30. Please put the TRT on the first page of your script under the slug. Please include the TWEET (required) you posted on our class Twitter account under you slug.
Sources: At least five sources who represent five distinct points of view. You must also include some data that supports your theme. Remember: you may not interview friends or family members without permission. Be sure to save the digital version of all of your original interviews as I may need to review them.
Style: Focus.
Description: This is an opportunity to examine an issue or a trend in depth within a beat using statistics and anecdotes to tell your story.
Grading: Your podcast assignment will be graded on a scale of 100 points in the following categories:
1. ANCHOR INTRO AND TWEET (5 points)
2. OPENING ANECDOTE AND STORY ORGANIZATION (20 points)
3. WRITING (20 points)
4. VOICE/DELIVERY (10 points)
5. INTERVIEWS/SOUNDBITES (15 points)
6. USE OF NAT SOUND (5 points)
7. TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS (Editing, levels, etc.) (15 points)
8. DIGITAL ELEMENTS (10 POINTS)
Reminder: Based on our readings and discussions, the goals of an audio podcast are different than a print story. Remember to utilize the strengths of broadcast to maximize the impact of your story, rather than just rewriting your print story into an audio version.
