Live Shot Assignment
Due: Tuesday, Oct. 8; Re-do due Tuesday, Dec. 3
TRT: 1:45-2:00 (-10 points if over or under)
Subject: A live shot that includes a short interview at an event in progress at Emory or in Atlanta
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to learn how to report without a script and conduct a short interview within the time limitations all in one take.
Sources: a person attending the event
Format: Script must include an anchor intro and a properly formatted script (see example). You do not need to log your script/interview questions. You will need to end your live shot with our signature outcue: “Your Name, Emory News Now. “ and that should also be on the script for the director.
Grading: Your live shot will be graded on a scale of 100 points in the following categories:
1. Anchor Intro (10 points)
2. Organization of Live Shot (20 points)
3. Interview Questions (10 points)
4. On-air Delivery (20 points)
5. Accuracy and Proofreading (10 points)
6. Video (30 points)
As I watch your live shot, I will evaluate your reporting, writing and shooting on the following criteria:
1. Is the focus of the live shot clear?
2. Do you show/tell viewers why this event is important? (context, background)
3. Does your report have a beginning, middle, and end?
4. Is your delivery conversational? Are you using active voice and S-V-O sentences?
5. Did you choose an appropriate person to interview? Did you ask the best questions?
6. Have you confirmed all the facts in your report? Have your formatted your anchor lead and script properly?
Your video points will be determined by how you shoot your partner’s live shot:
7. Is the live shot steady, well lit and well framed?
8. Did you block out the camera moves with the reporter? Were these executed successfully?
9. On the establishing shot, can you see all four eyes?
10. Is there good audio? Is there a good balance between the audio and nat sound?
Live Shot Script Example:
ANCHOR ON CAM (:25)
